Communist
China invaded Tibet in 1949/50 and set in motion th occupation
of the whole country, which culminated in the Tibetan National
Uprising of March 1959. With the crushing of the uprising
.His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the political and spiritual
leader of Tibet, escaped to India followed by some 80,000
Tibetans, who sought political asylum in India , Nepal, and
Bhutan. On April 29, 1959 His Holiness the Dalai Lama reestablished
the Tibetan Government-in-exile at Mussoorie and later moved
to Dharamsala in Northern India ,Tibetan Government -in-Exile
named as the Central Tibetan Administration,is the recognized
by Tibetans, both in and outside Tibet as their sole and legitimate
government. At present ,there are over 135,000 Tibetan in
exile.
The Tibet Religious Foundation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama
was founded after historic visit of His Holiness the Dalai
Lama to Taiwan in March 1997. With the mission of carrying
out the spiritual work of His Holiness, The Tibet Religious
Foundation was formally registered under the Ministry of Interior
R.O.C. in September 1997 and the office was inaugurated on
April 16,1998 in Taipei.
Objectives
The spirit of the Foundation is based on the teachings of
the Lord Buddha and the principle of universal responsibility
advocated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Its main aim is
to impart Buddhist teachings; publish teachings of His Holiness
the Dalai Lama into Chinese for free distribution ; translate
Chinese Buddhist text into Tibetan ; organize bilateral religious,
educational and cultural exchanges; take part in charitable
and social works; develop mutual understanding and co-operation
between the Tibetan and Taiwanese people; develop friendly
relations between the two Government & Non-Governmental
Institutions
Activities
we offer teachings and Tibetan Language classes on weekdays
from 7pm to 9pm and also distribute teaching materials to
students free of cost. The main courses for Dharma teaching
are LAMRIM CHENMO and CHOEJUK. In the Tibetan language classes
we cover the basics of reading, writing, conversation, and
grammar.
Monday : Tibetan Language Class (Focus on Buddhist Terminology)
Tuesday : Tibetan Language Class (Basic Tibetan Language)
Wednesday : Buddhist Teachings (LAMRIM CHENMO)
Thursday : Buddhist Teachings (CHOEJUK)
Friday : Buddhist Teachings (LAMRIM CHENMO)

Foundation's
Radio Program, which we have launched jointly with the Broadcasting Cooperation
of China, Taiwan, in May 2000, is mainly to enable the Chinese
speaking population to understand deeply about the Tibet's
ancient culture and Buddhist tradition . The program is broadcast
every Sunday morning from 9am to 10am .

It provides information on His Holiness the Dalai Lama's forthcoming
teachings and visits around the world and also programs of
other high Tibetan Lamas visiting Taiwan. It also includes
an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism in general.
